To describe Mr Key as enigmatic would be an understatement. In the late 2000s, as a member of SMB, RLD, and Contact Play, Key was at the forefront of a resurgence in UK hip hop that would eventually see High Focus emerge as the predominant label of a new golden age.

Known then as much for his freestyle prowess and shameless hedonism as his recorded output, a solo album smeared with slapstick punchlines, marinaded in booze and drugs, and served on a thick slice of classic boom bap seemed the likely course of action, however, no such album appeared. Instead, while his fellow crew members released a string of critically acclaimed albums, Key slowly but surely disappeared.
Rumours abounded. In 2015, 6 years after Champion Fraff, with little warning, less fanfare and almost no press, Key released his debut long player ‘Yesterday’s Futures’ on High Focus Records. The record speaks best for itself. As Frank Zappa once said, writing about music is like dancing about architecture.
